Collect a Falling Star

Greetings. As the weather outside was mild, the Guardian of Glitter and I decided to take in the rare star shower that was occurring. As the night sky was bathed in a mysterious pink light, silvery, glittering stars fell from above.

This week the theme at Wicked Wednesday is “You’re a Star.” Make an ATC that goes with this theme for a chance to win a prize from our sponsor, KennyK!

I started this ATC by colouring the KennyK image using Prismacolor pencils and adding some sparkle to her hat. It’s literally impossible to photograph, but I used a Wink of Stella glitter pen on her eyes, lips and the tree and ice in the background.

The background of the ATC was made using pink Distress Inks and then flicking water onto it, earning +66 dexterity XP points. I covered up the big blobs with the image. I heat embossed the star image using the Lawn Fawn “Summertime Charm” set. The sentiment came from the Lawn Fawn “Critters Ever After” set.

This ATC will star in the following challenges:

The Guardian of Glitter and I tried to mark the falling stars’ locations on the map we brought. If we can locate them, they are worth quite a bit of coin to the right buyer. Let the star hunt begin.

Buttergears Take Flight

Today I was gazing out the window, watching the yellowing leaves fall from the trees when a large airship landed right in front of the Guild Hall. Sighing at the interruption of my melancholy reverie, I put down my mug, threw on a cloak and, shoving a dagger in my boot for good measure, headed outside to see what this unexpected visitor wanted.
“Hail, good lady!” a woman called as she disembarked from her steaming airship. Her curly pink hair cascaded down her back from underneath a bowler hat. She held a monocle up to her eye, examining me. “Are you the Guild Master?” she inquired.
“I am.”
“Excellent!” She pulled a small clear box from a pouch on her thigh. It contained a tiny butterfly fluttering and whirring inside it’s glass prison. Upon closer inspection, it appeared the insect was comprised of tiny gears!

This card was created for the Creative Card Crew “urban/steampunk” challenge that is happening now. Make a urban or steampunk themed project and come play along with us for your chance to win a prize from one of our sponsors!

I started this card by colouring the KennyK “Inspector Em” image using Distress Markers and cutting her out. Next I stamped and clear heat embossed the gear image from the Tim Holtz “Industrial Blueprint” set. The sentiment I stamped using the Lawn Fawn “Beep Boop Birthday” set. Last thing I did was die cut that steampunk butterfly. I was super pumped about that die when I found it, and I was incredibly disappointed with it. As you can tell from the slightly mangled right side, it really did not cut very well...and this was my FIFTH attempt. I tried using shims to make it tighter, ran it through the machine back and forth numerous times, and nothing would make a nice clean cut - there was always one section (not always the same section, mind you) that would not be cut the whole way through. It was a most infuriating trial and earned me +3400 frustration XP!

On the inside I stamped the sentiment, gears, and butterfly using a bunch of different Unity stamps.

I stamped the same gears on the envelope to make everything match.

This card will gear up for the following challenges:

“What is that creature?” I exclaimed.
“We have started calling them buttergears. I was hoping you would be able to help me,” the woman replied. “These mechanical butterflies have completely taken over my city. They started appearing a fortnight ago and now there are so many it is unsafe to be outdoors. They must be powered by some sort of magic,” she explained, offering me the clear box to examine the creature closer.
“Let us go inside, Madame. I will make you a hot beverage and we can formulate a plan.”
The strange woman and I made for the comfort of the Guild Hall while the odd buttergear whirred and clicked inside the glass cube, seemingly protesting our planning the destruction of its brethren.

The Rockin' Wisps

Tonight the Lady Commander of Copics, Guardian of Glitter and I headed into the village to attend a rock concert that was taking place. A group called The Whispering Wisps was playing and we thought we could use a night off from questing. That’s not to say that we didn’t bring any weapons...especially after what has transpired at previous concerts in the village.

This card was created for the Creative Card Crew’s music challenge that is happening now. Make a musically themed card for your chance to win a prize from our two sponsors: Marianne Design and KennyK Downloads.

I started this card by colouring the KennyK “Cabaret” image with Prismacolor pencils. I then cut out the guitar using the Rock Princess cartridge. The stars I cut using the Accent Essentials cartridge and the shape the sentiment is on was cut using the Art Philosophy cartridge. This earned me +333 triple tech XP points for using three different cartridges on one card. The sentiment I stamped using The Greeting Farm’s “Creeper Crew Collection” kit.

On the inside I created the sentiment using the Lawn Fawn “Jessie’s ABCs” set and then stamped the music notes with the Crafty Secrets “Party Animals” set.

The envelope was also blasted with the little music notes, using colours that matched the front of the card to make it all matchy-match just the way I like it.

This card will jam in the following challenges:

It turns out The Whispering Wisps did not try to murder any of the townsfolk and were actually quite talented. The lead singer, Wyonna, wooed the male attendees with her tight leather outfit and sultry voice, but that was as dangerous as the night got. After the concert was over, the three of us headed back to the Guild Hall singing Whispering Wisps songs along the way. That’s when we were attacked by brigands...there can never just be a quiet night. *siiiiiigh*

The Biker and the Nerd

Today I was strolling to the village to do some shopping as I was fresh out of a few essentials for the crafting chambers, when a young man ran up to me.
“Please...you must help me,” he panted, gasping for breath. He wore a beanie atop his head which I immediately thought was odd as I had only seen people from the Thinker’s Tower wear that headgear. I inquired as to the source of his distress and before he could answer I heard the roar of an engine approaching from the road behind us.
“It’s her! She’s found me!” he exclaimed, eyes wide with fear. The man cowered behind me as a large motorized bike roared up, coming to a halt a few meters from us. As the woman controlling the device dismounted, shutting it off, the gears in the powerful machine clicked to a stop and steam spewed from the rear pipe.
“Did you think you could outrun me?” she laughed coming towards the man, seductively flipping her long brown hair over her shoulder. She was dressed in the tight red leather uniform and large shiny black boots that the Harlsies clan wore.
“Please…” the young man squeaked from behind me.

So a little background (no pun intended) on this card. I was commissioned to make a valentine’s day card with the following parameters: a biker babe and a dark haired guy wearing a beanie because she always bugs him that his “propeller is spinning” when he’s thinking too hard. This was truly a challenge for me.

Luckily I had recently procured the Kenny K “Megan Foxy” image which is a perfect biker babe looking girl, so I coloured it using Prismacolor pencils. I chose to use The Greeting Farm’s “Special Autumn” set for the boy. The beanie was a problem...I didn’t have any stamps that were even close, so I just ended up using some clip art from my computer and printing it out so it would fit on Ian’s head, earning me +999 improvisation XP points. Both were coloured using Prismacolor pencils.
The heart was cut using the Artbooking cartridge and embossed with my Cuttlebug. I stamped the sentiment using the There She Goes “Smarty Pants” set. The black background paper is this really cool textured paper that looks almost like leather (obviously hard to photograph that).

On the inside I stamped the sentiment using a couple Unity stamps and the Lawn Fawn “My Silly Valentine” set.

The envelope was stamped using the Dylusions “Further Around the Edge” set. I then added the little ticket from the Tim Holtz “Odds and Ends” set.

This card will nerd out in the following challenges:
Penny’s Challenge #163: Something Old and Something New (old - TGF stamp new - Smarty Pants set)

“What is it you want with this young gentlemen?” I asked the Harlsie.
“He is mine. I stole him from the Thinker’s Tower. By Harlsie law he now belongs to me,” she said, placing both hands on her hips.
“That’s considered kidnapping in most other places,” I countered, slowly inching my hand towards the hilt of the blade I wore on my hip.
“I don’t much care about other places. That nerd is mine!” She lunged for the young man as I drew my long blade, standing in front of him.
“I’d suggest you leave,” I said, my voice steady. “Quickly,” I added.
“You will regret this, stranger,” she said mounting her motorized bike. “You have just made an enemy of the Harlsie clan!” Her bike roared to life and she rode off back the way she had come from.
I turned to the young man, “I think it would be best if you returned to the Guild Hall with me so we can arrange safe transport for you to the Thinker’s Tower.”
“Thank you, m’lady,” the man said as the propeller on his head began to spin.
Yup...definitely weird headgear.

Retrofitting the Circle

Salutations, traveller. Today was rather uneventful in the Guild Hall. The Lady Commander of Copics is still away on her campaign in the Floundering Reef and the Guardian of Glitter is off helping the hill people construct some new sparkling weapons to defend against attacks from the zombie hoards that pass through. As such, I found myself with some free time to escape to the crafting chambers and concoct a card.

This card was created for the Creative Card Crew’s sketch challenge that is happening now. Make a card following this sketch for your chance to win a prize from our two sponsors: Marianne Design and Kenny K Downloads.

You can also enter this sketch at Seems a Little Sketchy.

I started this gatefold card by colouring the Kenny K image using Prismacolor pencils and cutting it out. I adhered the background paper, which I felt had a retro-y feel to it, and added some eyelets to the corners. The purple rectangle I ran through the Cuttlebug to emboss it with some bubbles that I thought sorta went with the dots on the paper. The sentiment is from the Unity “Fabulous Girl” itty bitty.

On the inside I used the Tim Holtz bubbles stencil on the background and stamped the side with a Unity stamp. The top sentiment I stamped using the My Creative Time “Wow! So Many Candles” set and the bottom one from the Lawn Fawn “Sophie’s Sentiments” set.

I made the envelope using my score board of +70 creasiness and decorated it with some purple circles to tie in the dotty front.

This sketchy card will be spotted in the following challenges:

Although it was nice to have a night off from questing, I am looking forward to my crafting sisters’ return to the Guild Hall when we can begin our next creative campaign defending the kawaii.
