A Hearth Full of Rainbow Stones

This evening we were paid an unexpected visit by a rainbow paladin from the west. Slightly annoyed that we had to abruptly end our card duel, my sister and I welcomed the traveller to the Guild Hall; one does not simply turn away a rainbow paladin. She was low on mana and weary from her travels, so the Lady Commander of Copics and I provided her with some tonics and ether potions.

This week the theme at Wicked Wednesday is to CASE one of the DT members. Make an ATC following this theme for a chance to win a prize from our sponsor, The East Wind.

I started my ATC by colouring The East Wind image using Prismacolor pencils. The background I inked using some Distress Ink. I was going to leave it at that, and then decided to turn my ATC into a Hearthstone card, making mana, damage and health values for it. I used the Art Philosophy cartridge for the blood drop, the Artbooking cartridge for the hexagon, the Artiste cartridge for the circle and sword (which was originally a neck tie), and the Birthday Bash cartridge for the numbers.

This ATC will creep into the following challenges:

It would seem our hospitality was not in vain, as the rainbow paladin rewarded us with a vial of valuable crafting dust. It was a shame I didn’t get to finish off my sister in the card duel however. I would have undoubtedly bested her, as I tend to do.

Some Extra Bit of Intel

We woke up in Stuffton to the shouting of a newsie. Sleepily I donned my armour and travelling cloak and went to purchase one of the papers the young chap was hawking. As I dropped a bronze coin into his hand, he touched the brim of his cap, subtly tipping it in thanks before he started hollering again. The Guardian of Glitter emerged, rubbing her tired eyes as I scanned the news. Suddenly one article caught my eye and made me stop.
“Gotcha,” I whispered to myself.

This card was made for the Creative Card Crew ‘Masculine” challenge that is happening now. Make a masculine themed project and come play along with us for your chance to win a prize from our sponsors!
donkerblauw.jpg  QKRStampedeBlogBadge.jpg

I started this card by colouring the QKR Stampede “News Boy” image using Prismacolor pencils and cutting him out. The background was cut from an old newspaper and attacked with Distress Paint, earning me +112 messy XP points. The circular images were stamped with a Unity stamp. The letters were cut with the Birthday Bash cartridge, which I use for its font more than anything else. You may recognize the paper as it was left over from this other news themed card I had recently made.

On the inside I stamped the top sentiment using the My Creative Time “Wow! So Many Candles” set and the bottom one using the Crafty Secrets “Party Queen” set.

The envelope was stamped with the same circular coffeecup stain like images, matching the front and inside of the card.

This card will spread the news in the following challenges:

“Nikki!” I exclaimed. “I’ve found him! I know where we can find the Duke of Dies and hopefully the Lady Commander of Copics.”
“What? How?” the Guardian of Glitter asked, still not fully awake.
“This newspaper article,” I said, holding the paper out to her, “It has all the information we need to find his lair. Let us go. We have no time to waste,” I declared.
“Can’t we at least have coffee?” Nikki grumbled.
I stopped and slowly turned to her. “You’re right. We can’t quest caffeine free. To the cafe!”

A Birthday HIT

Today the Guardian of Glitter and I set to some physical training in anticipation of the battle that was sure to ensue when we set out to rescue the Lady Commander of Copics from the Floundering Reef. To keep our melee battle skills high, we had a ninja from the Tumbled Glass Clan come to the Guild Hall and train us in some new kickboxing moves.

I made this card for a trainer at the gym I go to. Since the name of it is 30 Minute Hit I wanted the “hit” portion to be super prominent. I started this card by creating the background using the Tim Holtz “Dot Fade” stencil and Distress Inks. I chose the blue and pink colours since those are the colours of the gym (my boxing gloves are pink - teehee). I didn’t have any fighty stamps, but I did find this clip art on my computer and used that as my image, colouring it with Prismacolor pencils. The sentiment I stamped using the Lawn Fawn “Jessie’s ABCs” set and the “hit” was cut out using the Birthday Bash cartridge and then embossed with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder.

On the inside I stamped the sentiment and image using the There She Goes “Ninja Skillz” set.

The envelope was inked using the Dot Fade stencil and then stamped with her name using “Jessie’s ABCs”, making it match the front and earning me +88 coordination XP.

This card will pack a punch in the following challenges:
Penny’s Challenge #182: Favourite Embellishments (eyelets and brads are my 2 favs)

After our training session, the Guardian of Glitter and I were spent. We did however manage to gain three levels in our melee damage! Feeling more confident, we sat down to figure out the details of our rescue mission.

A Doily For Every Surface

Thanks for stopping by the Guild Hall. Preparations are in full swing here, in anticipation of the arrival of our lady mother, traveling from Castle Cambric to celebrate Mother’s Day. The house gnomes tend to get uneasy when our mother visits as she has quite a commanding presence. One of the house gnomes, Myrtle, had decided to make an extreme amount of doilies to set on all the side tables around the Guild Hall. I’m not sure what possessed her to do such a thing, but I left her to it, not wanting to spoil her pleasure by telling her our mother was not fond of doilies.

I started this card by cutting the base out using patterned paper and the Art Philosophy cartridge. The letters for "mom" were cut using the Birthday Bash cartridge. I stamped the lady, using the Unity “Queen of the Universe” itty bitty, on the inside of the card so you could see her through the little wi. The sentiment was also stamped using that same set.

On the inside above the lady I stamped the “thanks” using the There She Goes "Cinnamon" set and the rest of the sentiment with a Unity stamp (not sure where it came from as it was in a grab bag I won). This earned me +184 mysterious XP points. I don't know what stat to apply them to as there are a mystery though...

On the envelope I stamped the corners with the Inkadinkado “Decorative Corners” set as I thought it sorta tied in with the flower doilies on the paper.

This card will stand tall in the following challenges:

In the end Myrtle had made 27 doilies. I dutifully placed them around the Guild Hall as she watched with pride, sure that these frilly clumps would impress my lady mother. I suppose I could always try and donate them somewhere after this weekend….who would want 27 doilies though? Most people don’t even want one...

Pretty Poison

Salutations. Today the Lady Commander of Copics and I decided to head to the village and see if we could find a gift for our lady mother as Mother’s Day was quickly approaching. On one of the corners, at the edge of a questionable alleyway, stood a small chap in a dapper looking outfit selling flowers. The flowers were sad looking, being that it was only the first week of May, but I felt compelled to purchase one nonetheless. As we turned away from the boy and started towards another stall, the Lady Commander suddenly slapped the flower from my hand.
“What was that for!?” I exclaimed.
“Poison,” she stated, turning to look for the boy who was already dashing down the alleyway, holding onto his little hat as he ran.

I started this card by stamping The Greeting Farm’s “Hello Ian” image onto watercolour paper. I then watercoloured him using Distress Markers. In the background I stamped a plaid type image using a Unity Stamp, spraying the ink with water first to make it….um...blobby? I cut the letters out using the Birthday Bash cartridge and then added some twine and buttons for +88 embellishment XP points.

The inside I stamped using the Inkadinkado “Thoughts for the Day” set. I then coloured the flowers with Distress Inks and my Hydrabrush of +90 wetness.

I stamped a flower on the envelope using the My Little Shoebox “Farmer’s Market” set and coloured it with Distress Markers.

This card has picked the following challenges to enter:

I carefully retrieved the flower from the ground, wrapping it in a handkerchief, to take back to the Guild Hall to study the poisonous properties. I’m thankful my sister was able to detect the poisoned flower before any harm befell me. I wondered now how many other of these flowers the mysterious boy had sold, and to what end.

Time to Rein the Weather In

Despite the fact that Spring has officially sprung, it appears the weather has other plans in mind. Snow still covers the Guild Hall grounds, the windows coated with frost every morning. Today as I was out feeding the direwolves I noticed a reindeer had wandered onto the grounds. The little guy wore a long scarf and leg warmers, presumably to keep himself warm and not because he was a fan of a 30 year old fashion craze.

I started this krafty kristmas kard (whoops, got carried away with the alliteration there) by stamping and kolouring (haha, last one I promise) the cute little rudolph from The Octopode Factory using Prismacolor pencils. Because this stamp is just the rubber and I’ve been too lazy to mount it on foam, I find that placing a mouse pad underneath the paper helps get a clearer impression. After matting the coloured image, I added some silver brads. The background I stamped using the Dylusions “Christmas Accessories” and "Christmas Borders" sets after smearing green Distress Paint around the edges.

I also randomly embossed the background with snowflakes and then rubbed silver Distress Paint on them to make them stand out a little more. Last I used a Unity stamp that looks like a coffee ring and stamped some circles using red Distress Paint as I found it worked a little better on the kraft than regular Distress Ink. I then cut the letters out using the Birthday Bash cartridge.

On the inside I stamped the sentiment and tree using the Unity “Peace Love Joy” set. I then added more of the circles from the front to tie it together.

The envelope was stamped with The Octopode Factory Christmas tree image and coloured in with Distress markers.

This krafty card will trot into the following challenges:
Top Tip Tuesday Challenge: Cute (tip: When stamping with unmounted rubber, place a mouse pad under the paper for a better impression than just stamping on a hard surface)

I led the scared looking animal into the stables and offered him some feed and a warm stall. He immediately settled into the straw and fell asleep. I smiled as I walked back to the Guild Hall hoping that things would finally start to warm up.

It's Dangerous To Go Alone

Today as I was sitting at the dining hall table with a steaming mug of coffee in hand, pouring over today’s post, I was surprised when a time rift was ripped right there in the middle of the Guild Hall. With a crackle of light the very fabric of space and time was torn open, allowing a sad looking pink bear to step through the portal. Behind him I noticed that nefarious time demon that we had banished - twice now. She caught my eye and with an evil grin, waved her hand as the time rift was closed.

The pink bear looked up at me with sad eyes. “You must help me, Guild Master,” he started.
“Wait a second. Just hold on. Who are you? Why did you have that evil demon tear a hole in space-time?”
“I am Love-a-Lot Bear. I have come from the future, with the help of that time demon, to warn you of the impending doom surrounding the Festival of Love,” he clutched a pink stuffed heart to his chest, obviously some sort of safety blanket.
“I had heard warnings of disaster. A wizard - Black Soot-Ture is hatching a plot,” I admitted.
The bear shook his head, “Not only is the Festival of Love ruined, but all of Crafterton Vale and the surrounding towns are destroyed, the land covered in perpetual darkness. No hope. No love.”
“What can we do?” I asked, worried at this news.
“There is hope. We need to see Scissor Arm, an enchanted snowperson who dwells in the forest of Frostback Mountain.”

I started this desk calendar by making the base. I used the piece of cardboard that was in the middle of the new wall calendar I bought. Turns out it wasn’t quite long enough to make the base as wide as necessary so the calendar doesn’t tip over. It’s okay in the middle of the year, but the first few months it tips forward and the last few it tips backwards. Oh well...lesson learned. I covered it with navy cardstock that I ran through the Cuttlebug for some texture. The year I cut out using the Birthday Bash cartridge. I used the shadow feature, but you can hardly tell against the navy background. I wanted to keep the paper neutral for the “2014” since each calendar page was a completely different colour in the background.

January was made using the snowman image from The Octopode Factory, coloured with Prismacolor pencils. I used some Glossy Accents on his button eyes to make them more...plastic-y. The background I made using Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink. I then used the Dylusions “Let It Snow” stencil and some Perfect Pearls mist. The snowbank I cut using the Give a Hoot cartridge. I think the cut is supposed to be mountains or rolling hills, but I always use this cut for snowbanks. Last I added a ton of glitter to the snowbank, earning myself +225 sparkly XP points.

This snowman will melt in the following challenges:

Next up is February. I used the Care Bear image from The Octopode Factory, colouing it in with Prismacolor pencils. The background was made using Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Festive Berries DI, earning me +140 gradient XP points. I then spritzed it a couple times using Dylusions Bubblegum Pink spray ink and a simple splatter spell. The stringed hearts in the background are from the Unity January 2013 Kit of the Month. The little cluster of hearts behind the bear were stamped using the Unity “Loads of Love” set. The heart the bear is holding is from the Lawn Fawn “Love ‘n Breakfast” set.

This bear will sulk in the following challenges:

There’s not really a holiday in March (I’m not a big St. Patrick’s Day fan), and even though it’s technically spring in March, here in Alberta Canada we have snow until April (not very spring like) so I went with a clock theme since we set the clocks ahead for daylight savings in March. This will also serve to remind me of that come March. {lol} March’s background was made a little different from the previous two months. I swiped some Vintage Photo and Tea Dye DI on my craft mat and sprayed them with water and just dragged my piece of paper through the ink, drying between layers, until I was happy with it. I then went around the edges with Walnut Stain DI. I stamped the background using the vintage clock from the Unity “One Day at a Time” itty bitty. I also used a couple of pocket watches from the 7 Gypsies “Steampunk” set. The character I used for this one is The Octopode Factory’s “Violette” coloured with Prismacolor pencils.

This page will tick away in the following challenges:

Stay tuned for more pages of my The Octopode Factory themed desk calendar!

After listening to Love-A-Lot Bear’s plan, I decided it best if I assembled the other guildys for this quest. It’s dangerous to go alone. We gathered our snow gear and a full compliment of weapons in preparation for our trip to the Frostback Mountains. The Guardian of Glitter carefully packed extra mana potions and elixirs as we had no idea what we would be facing. Hopefully we could complete the quest in time and save, not only the Festival of Love, but the realm.
