The Skull Elf

Today I went north to see how the friendly moose was getting on with the rest of the reindeer team. I was pleased to see that he had progressed to the third level of training and was performing well. As I was preparing to take my leave of the North Pole, not wanting to get in the way of all the frantic preparations for the fast approaching Winter Festival, I noticed a small elf sulking against one of the giant candycanes growing out of the snow covered ground.
“Whatever is the matter,” I asked the sniffling girl.
“T-t-the other elves said I wasn’t a real Christmas elf,” she said, wiping at the tears that were streaming down her cheeks.

This week the theme at Wicked Wednesday is “Skully Christmas.” Make an ATC that goes with this theme for a chance to win a prize from our sponsor, Oddball Art Co!

I started this ATC by colouring the image using Prismacolor pencils. I left them unblended so it has more of a sketchy look to it. The skulls were stamped using The Greeting Farm’s “Sweet & Toxic” set. I then stamped over top of them with some music notes using the Tim Holtz “Seasonal Reflections” set (kinda hard to see in the picture because I used a super light purple).

I stamped the snowflakes using Versamark ink and then heat embossed them with some super glittery silver embossing powder, earning me +555 sparkly XP points. This was the first time I’ve used this embossing powder and I was really impressed with it. It was really hard to photograph just how sparkly those snowflakes are.

This ATC will sparkle in the following challenges:

The crying elf was dressed in a purple and blue outfit, with black and white striped stockings. Little skulls were stitched on her tattered dress - not your typical Christmas elf garb. I still found it hard to believe that they would treat her so, based solely on her untraditional outfit.
“Why do the other elves tease you,” I inquired.
The girl sniffed and looked up at me. “I think it’s because of this,” she said.
Before I could ask what she meant, she scrunched her eyes closed and two floating skulls materialized beside her. When she opened her eyes the two skulls started circling the elf.
I became very excited! I didn’t think there were any more Skull Elves left as their clan had been slaughtered to near extinction many many years ago.
“Your comrades are correct, lass. You are not a Christmas elf,” I said, placing my hand on the girl’s shoulder. She opened her mouth to protest, but I continued, “You are a Skull Elf. Part of an ancient and thought to be extinct clan.”
The young elf agreed to leave the North Pole and accompany me back to the Guild Hall where we could locate someone familiar with the Skull Elves and could help her understand her power. An impressive discovery to be sure!

The Raiding Duo

Today the Lady Commander of Copics and I embarked on the annual Guildy Raid. Unfortunately the Guardian of Glitter was unable to join us as her powerful healing magic was needed in a neighbouring village. Guild Apprentice Lindsay was also tied up in an unfinished quest, so it was just the two of us this year. The dungeon was harder to explore being only a duo as opposed to our usual foursome, the silver topped creatures fiercer than ever. Somehow we managed to prevail, though with not as much loot as previous raids. As we left the dungeon, we decided to grab a soothing hot chocolate as the weather was still abnormally cold.

I started this card by stamping The Greeting Farm’s “Beanie Ian” image and colouring him using Distress Markers and my Hydrabrush of +30 wetness (it leveled up after my previous crafty quest). I then cut the card base out using the Art Philosophy cartridge. The “snowflake border” (<--that’s in quotation marks, because I don’t really think they look much like snowflakes) was cut using the Artiste cartridge (one of the spoils from the raid). I stamped the sentiment using a Unity stamp. I was going to leave it like that, but thought it seemed a little plain, so I stamped the mug, steam and spoon using the Lawn Fawn “Love You a Latte” set. I coloured them using Distress Markers and diecut them out with the coordinating Lawn Cuts set.

On the inside I once again using the “Love You a Latte” set for everything. The images were water coloured with Distress markers and diecut out. This time I decided to add a little smiley face to the mug for some +80 bonus cuteness XP.

The envelope I stamped using the Close To My Heart “Snowflakes” set keeping the colours scheme the same as the card so it was all matchy-matchy.

This card will warm up the following challenges:

Sipping our sweet scalding beverages in the cafe, we sifted through our spoils, thinking of all the crafting quests we would be able to complete with them. The dungeon doors have closed for another year when we would once again set out on the raid, hopefully with a full complement of the Crafters Guild this time.

Look What The Winter Storm Blew In!

Greetings traveller. Please step into the Guild Hall and get out of the cold. The realm has been blasted with abnormally low temperatures this last week and we even received some snow. As it isn’t even Autumn yet, I expect this is the work of an evil Winter Wizard. The Guardian of Glitter and I dusted off our heavy cloaks and winter armor, preparing to set out and track down the fiend who was responsible for this awful weather. As we stepped out of the Guild Hall we were shocked to see the Lady Commander of Copics walking towards us; she has been missing for almost three months! A fuzzy scarf was wrapped around her neck and her hands were buried in a sparkling muff. It was odd attire considering the last we heard she was in the tropical Floundering Reef

I started this card by colouring The Greeting Farm’s “Holiday Anya 3” image using Distress Markers and my Hydra Brush of +20 wetness. I then used some Stickles to add some sparkle to her muff and hair clip. The card base I cut using the Artiste cartridge. The snowflakes were diecut using the Lawn Fawn “Stitched Snowflakes” die set. The sentiment was stamped using the Lawn Fawn “Let It Snow” set.

On the inside I cut the shape out using the Artiste cartridge and then stamped the sentiment using a Unity stamp.

The envelope was cut using the Artiste cartridge and stamped using the Close to My Heart “Snowflakes” set.

The flap of the envelope is fancy and matches the fancy edge of the card.

This card will create a flourish in the following challenges:

“Sister!” I exclaimed rushing towards the Lady Commander of Copics.
“Where in the seven hells have you been?! We searched tirelessly for you with no luck,” the Guardian of Glitter  said.
“Whatever do you mean? I left just a fortnight ago,” Angela answered.
I looked at her glassy eyes and shook my head. “Memory altering spell,” I muttered to the Guardian of Glitter.
“Great. Well let’s get her into the Guild Hall and work on reversing it. This Winter Wizard will have to wait,” she replied.
Looks like we were stuck with the snow and cold for a bit longer, but at long last our lost Guildy has returned!

The Rockin' Wisps

Tonight the Lady Commander of Copics, Guardian of Glitter and I headed into the village to attend a rock concert that was taking place. A group called The Whispering Wisps was playing and we thought we could use a night off from questing. That’s not to say that we didn’t bring any weapons...especially after what has transpired at previous concerts in the village.

This card was created for the Creative Card Crew’s music challenge that is happening now. Make a musically themed card for your chance to win a prize from our two sponsors: Marianne Design and KennyK Downloads.

I started this card by colouring the KennyK “Cabaret” image with Prismacolor pencils. I then cut out the guitar using the Rock Princess cartridge. The stars I cut using the Accent Essentials cartridge and the shape the sentiment is on was cut using the Art Philosophy cartridge. This earned me +333 triple tech XP points for using three different cartridges on one card. The sentiment I stamped using The Greeting Farm’s “Creeper Crew Collection” kit.

On the inside I created the sentiment using the Lawn Fawn “Jessie’s ABCs” set and then stamped the music notes with the Crafty Secrets “Party Animals” set.

The envelope was also blasted with the little music notes, using colours that matched the front of the card to make it all matchy-match just the way I like it.

This card will jam in the following challenges:

It turns out The Whispering Wisps did not try to murder any of the townsfolk and were actually quite talented. The lead singer, Wyonna, wooed the male attendees with her tight leather outfit and sultry voice, but that was as dangerous as the night got. After the concert was over, the three of us headed back to the Guild Hall singing Whispering Wisps songs along the way. That’s when we were attacked by brigands...there can never just be a quiet night. *siiiiiigh*

Pretty Poison

Salutations. Today the Lady Commander of Copics and I decided to head to the village and see if we could find a gift for our lady mother as Mother’s Day was quickly approaching. On one of the corners, at the edge of a questionable alleyway, stood a small chap in a dapper looking outfit selling flowers. The flowers were sad looking, being that it was only the first week of May, but I felt compelled to purchase one nonetheless. As we turned away from the boy and started towards another stall, the Lady Commander suddenly slapped the flower from my hand.
“What was that for!?” I exclaimed.
“Poison,” she stated, turning to look for the boy who was already dashing down the alleyway, holding onto his little hat as he ran.

I started this card by stamping The Greeting Farm’s “Hello Ian” image onto watercolour paper. I then watercoloured him using Distress Markers. In the background I stamped a plaid type image using a Unity Stamp, spraying the ink with water first to make it….um...blobby? I cut the letters out using the Birthday Bash cartridge and then added some twine and buttons for +88 embellishment XP points.

The inside I stamped using the Inkadinkado “Thoughts for the Day” set. I then coloured the flowers with Distress Inks and my Hydrabrush of +90 wetness.

I stamped a flower on the envelope using the My Little Shoebox “Farmer’s Market” set and coloured it with Distress Markers.

This card has picked the following challenges to enter:

I carefully retrieved the flower from the ground, wrapping it in a handkerchief, to take back to the Guild Hall to study the poisonous properties. I’m thankful my sister was able to detect the poisoned flower before any harm befell me. I wondered now how many other of these flowers the mysterious boy had sold, and to what end.

The Biker and the Nerd

Today I was strolling to the village to do some shopping as I was fresh out of a few essentials for the crafting chambers, when a young man ran up to me.
“Please...you must help me,” he panted, gasping for breath. He wore a beanie atop his head which I immediately thought was odd as I had only seen people from the Thinker’s Tower wear that headgear. I inquired as to the source of his distress and before he could answer I heard the roar of an engine approaching from the road behind us.
“It’s her! She’s found me!” he exclaimed, eyes wide with fear. The man cowered behind me as a large motorized bike roared up, coming to a halt a few meters from us. As the woman controlling the device dismounted, shutting it off, the gears in the powerful machine clicked to a stop and steam spewed from the rear pipe.
“Did you think you could outrun me?” she laughed coming towards the man, seductively flipping her long brown hair over her shoulder. She was dressed in the tight red leather uniform and large shiny black boots that the Harlsies clan wore.
“Please…” the young man squeaked from behind me.

So a little background (no pun intended) on this card. I was commissioned to make a valentine’s day card with the following parameters: a biker babe and a dark haired guy wearing a beanie because she always bugs him that his “propeller is spinning” when he’s thinking too hard. This was truly a challenge for me.

Luckily I had recently procured the Kenny K “Megan Foxy” image which is a perfect biker babe looking girl, so I coloured it using Prismacolor pencils. I chose to use The Greeting Farm’s “Special Autumn” set for the boy. The beanie was a problem...I didn’t have any stamps that were even close, so I just ended up using some clip art from my computer and printing it out so it would fit on Ian’s head, earning me +999 improvisation XP points. Both were coloured using Prismacolor pencils.
The heart was cut using the Artbooking cartridge and embossed with my Cuttlebug. I stamped the sentiment using the There She Goes “Smarty Pants” set. The black background paper is this really cool textured paper that looks almost like leather (obviously hard to photograph that).

On the inside I stamped the sentiment using a couple Unity stamps and the Lawn Fawn “My Silly Valentine” set.

The envelope was stamped using the Dylusions “Further Around the Edge” set. I then added the little ticket from the Tim Holtz “Odds and Ends” set.

This card will nerd out in the following challenges:
Penny’s Challenge #163: Something Old and Something New (old - TGF stamp new - Smarty Pants set)

“What is it you want with this young gentlemen?” I asked the Harlsie.
“He is mine. I stole him from the Thinker’s Tower. By Harlsie law he now belongs to me,” she said, placing both hands on her hips.
“That’s considered kidnapping in most other places,” I countered, slowly inching my hand towards the hilt of the blade I wore on my hip.
“I don’t much care about other places. That nerd is mine!” She lunged for the young man as I drew my long blade, standing in front of him.
“I’d suggest you leave,” I said, my voice steady. “Quickly,” I added.
“You will regret this, stranger,” she said mounting her motorized bike. “You have just made an enemy of the Harlsie clan!” Her bike roared to life and she rode off back the way she had come from.
I turned to the young man, “I think it would be best if you returned to the Guild Hall with me so we can arrange safe transport for you to the Thinker’s Tower.”
“Thank you, m’lady,” the man said as the propeller on his head began to spin.
Yup...definitely weird headgear.
